What are Story Cards?

At the beginning of every game, you pick a Story Card, which details exactly how you will play the game. Each Story Card has a unique set of goals, adding variety to your games and ensuring that no two trips through the 'Verse are the same. You can either choose a story that suits the type of game you want to play, or shuffle the cards and pick one at random, to make it a surprise for everyone.

The Story Cards included in Firefly: The Game

First Time in the Captain's Chair
First Time in the Captain's Chair

Introductory card, recommended for New Players.

This introductory Story Card is found in current printings of Firefly: The Game. It'll help you learn the ropes without gettin' all discombobulated. The aim is pretty simple: you just need to get Solid with two Contacts by completing Jobs for them, Work enough Jobs to collect $6000, then be the first to travel to Ezra, in the Georgia system, and pay the $6000 to Niska.

Awful Lonely in the Big Black

Solo game.

This solo Story Card is another good way to learn how to play Firefly: The Game. You start the game with a small crew, and you must race against the clock to try to accomplish one of the three goals listed on the card under "Winning the Game" within 20 turns.

'Respectable' Persons of Business

"Respectable" Persons of Business

A race for cash.

This basic Story Card will test your grasp of the rules, as you race against the other players to be the first to collect $12,000. You will have to choose a strategy that works for you: will you concentrate on easy, modest-paying Jobs from Commander Harken and Amnon Duul, strike a balance with moderate Jobs from Badger and Patience, or take a risk with lucrative but dangerous Jobs from Niska?

The King of All Londinium

A carefully planned heist.

Sometimes money isn't everything. You will need to take the time to assemble a balanced Crew with a decent collection of Gear if you want to have a good chance of achieving the increasingly difficult goals in this story. But beware: the other players are preparing too, so don't leave your run too late. It's up to you to decide when to throw caution to the wind and hope luck is on your side.

Desperadoes

Desperadoes

Stay ahead of the law.

Sometimes crime does pay, but only if you can get away with it. This story is another race to accumulate cash, but with the added complication that every player starts the game already wanted by the Alliance authorities. Illegal Jobs pay an additional $1000: tempting, but make sure you have a decent Crew to help get you past those nasty Misbehave cards. And make sure you avoid the Alliance Cruiser at all costs!

Harken's Folly

A daring and elaborate caper.

You need to get Solid with every Contact except Commander Harken just to start this story. You'll need a good Crew, with respectable Tech and Negotiate scores, as well as enough Gear to survive plenty of Misbehave cards.

Niska's Holiday

Niska's Holiday

Expert card, recommended for Experienced Players.  Not for the faint-hearted.

"Do you know what a reputation is? It's people talking - gossip. It's not... To hold, touch it - you can't. Not from gossip. Now, I also have reputation. Not so pleasant." - Adelai Niska.

This difficult Story Card is perfect for when you have mastered the flow of the game and are ready for an extra challenge. Most of Niska's Jobs are Illegal, Immoral or both, so you'll need a tough and unscrupulous crew behind you. A high fighting skill is a must, but you can't fight your way past every Misbehave card, so additional Skills and Gear certainly won't go amiss. Good luck!
